Christmas trees bring in $40,000 for the Children”™s Foundation

The fourth annual Trees for Tots Christmas tree pick up service in Guelph raised $40,000 for the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington.

With the Christmas season somewhat feeling like a distant memory, many families purposefully took their fresh tree down to have it outside for the pick-up service on Jan. 9.

The 150 volunteers and 65 trucks did an exceptional job collecting 2,400 trees throughout the city and with such enthusiasm and positive spirit, officials state.

When all 209 routes were collected and a generous donation from Scotiabank came in, $40,000 was raised for the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington.

“The excitement around Trees for Tots is inspiring,” said Glenna Banda, executive director of the foundation, in a press release.

“It shows us how much our community is willing to rally together, to donate their time, energy and dollars to give back to families in Guelph.”

The Children’s Foundation provides financial assistance to children in Guleph and Wellington through four main programs:

– Adopt-A-Family matches donors with families to make Christmas shine brighter;

– Food and Friends student nutrition programs provide healthy food in a safe, convenient environment;

– Free to Play program provides families with financial support for recreational activities; and

– scholarships help youths take the next step in their educational journey.
